A customer has invited us to the questionnaire Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism: how shall we proceed?

The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is a policy measure aimed at reducing carbon emissions by imposing a tax on imported goods to the EU that have a high carbon footprint (https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg_impl/2023/1773/oj).

The goal is to ensure that domestic and foreign producers face the same carbon costs, creating fair competition between them. 

Your customer sent you an invite to CBAM questionnaire because they are importing CBAM affected goods from you in at least one of the following sectors: Cement, Iron and Steel, Aluminium, Fertilisers, Hydrogen, Electricity. Kindly be aware that:

- your customer must report to the EU on CBAM on quarterly basis and needs your input within 14 days

- the CBAM results in IntegrityNext will only be visible to the requesting customer 

Please proceed as follows:

  1. Log into your existent profile with the registered email address (https://app.integritynext.com/login).
    If you did not register before, follow the instructions in the invitation message to start the assessment.
  2. Open the questionnaire "Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism" 
  3. Select the answer 'No' to the entry question.

  4. Download the MS-Excel* template, where your customer has already listed the CBAM-affected products they purchase from you.

  5. Fill out the Excel template. Do not make any changes in its format and / or in the pre-filled fields.

  6. Save the file in the same format.
  7. Upload the file back to the platform under the corresponding Quarter.
  8. Select "save". The assessment will be instantly shared with the requester.

* The MS-Excel Template includes the sub-tab "Guidance" with a step by step overview:

  • what is CBAM
  • which goods fall under CBAM
  • which suppliers from outside the EU are affected
  • responsibilities of suppliers affected by CBAM
  • how to measure the emissions 
  • how to report the emissions
  • a list of further informative sources
