Here is a step-by-step explanation on how to fill out our MS-Excel template:

  1. Go to the first tab “Enter product & emissions data”.

    - You only need to fill in your data in this tab.

    - Very important: Please do not change any format, the order or header of any column.

    - You only have to provide data for the articles that are listed in that template. You do not have to add any additional products. Some data regarding these products is already pre-filled from your customer.

    - Reminder: Only fill out the empty & white fields, yellow fields are filled in automatically and grey fields can be ignored.

  2. Article Information (column A – G):

    - Each line represents one CBAM article for which your customer has requested data.

    - Please select the “Aggregated Goods Category” (column C) from the drop-down menu for each article.

    - Please select the “Article Country of Origin” (column G) from the drop-down menu and confirm in which country the products have been produced.

    - The rest of these columns are pre-filled from your customer and for your information. Please do not change or delete any given data (Article ID, Name, …).

  3. Importer Information (column H – K):

    - All columns are pre-filled from your customer. Please do not change or delete any given data (Importer ID, Name, City, …).

  4. Supplier and Contact Information (column L – S):

    - The Supplier ID (column L) is pre-filled from your customer. Please do not change this ID. If you have any concerns about this ID, please contact your customer.

    - The columns Supplier Company Name, Supplier City, Postal Code and Country Code Supplier (column M – P) are already pre-filled from your customer. If this data is not correct, please fill in the correct data.

    - Please fill in the requested contact information such as Supplier Contact Name, Email and telephone number (column Q – S). This is mandatory information.

  5. Installation Information (column T – X):

    - Please fill in data regarding the installation or factory in which the product has been produced.

    - Your “Installation ID” is requested in column T.

    - This ID is issued by your national authorities where the production site is located. In many cases, it originates from existing emissions trading systems or environmental registrations.

    - If such an ID is not available, please contact the competent authority in your country or fill in “not available”.

  6. Operator Information (column Y – AF):

    - Please fill in data regarding the operator of the factory in which the product has been produced

    - This could either be another company/entity or the same as the supplier or installation. If that is the case, you can copy the information from the columns before.

    - However, if the operator is another company/entity, please provide the data.

  7. Production Method Information (column AG):

    - Please select the applicable production method description (column V) from the drop-down menu depending on your product.

  8. Direct Embedded Emissions Information (column AH – AP):

Specific Direct Embedded Emissions are the CO₂e emissions directly produced at the manufacturing site during the production process of a CBAM-covered product (example: emissions from burning fossil fuels in a steel mill).

    - Please confirm in column AH “Reporting Methodology for Direct Embedded Emissions” that you have calculated the respective emissions according to the EU Commission rules (EU calculation methodology) by selecting that in the drop-down menu. Only this method is now accepted by the EU Commission.

If you have questions regarding that method, please read the EU guidance document for installation operators outside the EU (link  Quick Guide on page 12 - 20), which is available in 12 languages. You can also watch the recording of an info session conducted by the EU Commission per sector in which they also explained this methodology (link).

    - Please confirm in column AI “Determination of Direct Embedded Emissions” that you have calculated the respective emissions with actual data.

    - All columns between AJ and AO are only relevant if you are selling electricity to your customer (CN code 271600). If these columns are grey in your template, please ignore them.

    - Please indicate in column AP “Specific Direct Embedded Emissions” the emissions that you have calculated for this product in t CO₂e/t or MWH.

    - Only fill in the number in English notation (using a dot as decimal separator).

  9. Indirect Embedded Emissions Information (column AQ – AW):

Specific Indirect Embedded Emissions are the CO₂e emissions from electricity consumption used in the production of a CBAM-covered product (example: emissions from the power grid supplying energy to a steel mill).

    - Please select in column AQ “Determination of Indirect Embedded Emissions” if you have calculated your indirect emissions with actual data or with other methods including default values.

    - Please indicate in column AR how much electricity has been consumed to produce that article. The unit should be MWH/t of that article.

    - You can get this information from your electricity bills, which can then be split up into your different production processes.

    - Please select the source of your electricity in column AS from the drop-down menu:

    • Direct technical link to electricity generator

    • (Bilateral) power purchase agreement

    • Received from grid

    - Please select the source for your electricity emission factor that you used to multiply your electricity consumed

    • Calculation: electricity consumed x electricity emission factor = indirect embedded emissions.

    • The preferred source is “Commission based on IEA (International Energy Agency) data”. You can find the emission factors from the IEA here.

    - If you have selected “Other” as a source of electricity emission factor in column AH, please indicate in column AU which source you have been using.

    - Please enter in column AV “Electricity Emission Factor” the emission factor that you have been using to calculate your indirect embedded emissions. The unit should be tCO₂e per MWH.

    - Please enter in column AW your “Specific Indirect Embedded Emissions” that you calculated for this product in tCO₂e /t.

    • Calculation: electricity consumed x electricity emission factor = indirect embedded emissions

    • Only fill in the number in English notation (using a dot as decimal separator).

    • The unit is automatically shown in column BH. Please do not change the unit.

  10. Carbon Price Paid Information (column AX – BH):

The carbon cost already paid in the country of production, such as a carbon tax or emissions trading system. If a local carbon price was paid, your customer can deduct this amount from the CBAM obligation, reducing the number of CBAM certificates they need to buy.

    - Please state in column AX if a local carbon price was already paid for this product in the country of origin. Please select from these drop-down options:

    • NO

    • Carbon tax

    • Carbon levy

    • Carbon fee

    • Emission allowances under a greenhouse gas emissions trading system in the context of a national ETS

    • Emission allowances under a greenhouse gas emissions trading system in the context of a regional ETS

    - If you have selected “NO” and you have not yet paid any carbon price, then you are finished with this Excel template and the rest of the columns are not necessary for you. Please continue with these steps:

    • Save the file on your device, go back to your IntegrityNext profile and the respective CBAM assessment for which you have filled out the template.

    • Upload this file into the corresponding drop zone of the assessment or click on “select file”.

    • After that, our system is running an automated validation of your data. This validation step is explained in another article.

    - If you have already paid a local carbon price in the country of origin, you have to specify with the drop-down menu in column AL what kind of carbon price and all columns until BH are required to be filled out by you. You will see that they change from grey to white.

    - You need to specify the country code, currency, the effective carbon price due with rebates deducted, a description of the legal act, the exchange rate of your local currency to EURO, which type of goods and the quantity of emissions and of that product is covered by the carbon price.

After that, you are finished with this Excel template.
